Tatay & Mo

AncestorVisual

How has this helped you reconnect?
This photo of me and my grandfather, Plenio Beunacosa, was taken in my family home in the Philippines. Growing up, I'd always heard my mom call him Tatay (Dad). And naturally mimicking my mother, my siblings and I did too. Most of my memories with him are in the kitchen, where he taught me patience, the beauty of silence, and the tenderness in cooking. His family owned a bakery; he baked like it was in his blood. He cooked a tasty Sinigang too. I attribute my love for french fries to the time we made some together – the best fries I've ever eaten. His memory will always live through me whenever I eat a fry.I miss you Tay, and I love you very much.
