I chose the poet/author Ocean Vuong who wrote the book On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous. The whole book is a letter to his mom who’s a refugee of the Vietnam war. Ocean Vuong details growing up queer and Asian in a white environment.There was so much of the book I could relate to and honestly sobbed through the majority of it. It helped heal a bit of my relationship with my family and explorations of my lineage. The picture on the right is a photo I found on google of Ocean as a baby with his mom. It reminded me of my baby pictures.
