Pachinko

Culture/HeritageWriting

How has this helped you reconnect?
"History has failed us, but no matter." That is the first line of the book Pachinko, which is a multi-generational novel that shows how a family's life is impacted by the Japanese occupation of Korea. This book was one of the first in-depth pieces of media that addressed the history of 20th century Korea, and it gave me so much information and motivation to learn more. Pachinko is also special because it's a work of historical fiction that stands besides non-fiction accounts of history, and getting immersed in the narrative and details from the book really helped me learn more about Korean history.
